Yoichi Distillery is located in Hokkaido, Japan, known as the "Scotland of Japan". This distillery was founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934 as Dainippon Juice Co., Ltd. Taketsuru Masataka chose Yoichi because it has a cool, humid climate similar to Scotland, abundant water sources, and fresh and clean air, all of which are indispensable conditions for making ideal whiskey. Masataka Taketsuru's pursuit at his first distillery was to make malt whiskey that was thick and powerful. He insisted on uncompromisingly reproducing the whiskey-making methods he learned while distilling in Scotland. His persistence is reflected in the "direct-fired pot still" and "coal-fired direct-fired distillation". This method can create a thick and heavily peated liquor with a roasted flavor, and produce a peat aroma and A savory, personalized single malt whiskey. Masataka Taketsuru followed the method he learned at Longmorn Distilling in Scotland, and even though the method was not efficient, he felt it was necessary to stick to it in order to make real whiskey. This passion for whiskey making and Taketsuru Masataka's persistence in dreaming are still passed down by Nikka Whiskey today.
The once-discontinued "Crane 17 Years" has a different blender than the current blender, so the blending style is different. The new version of the original wine gives people a youthful impression, with relatively less mature and smoky flavors. It contains a small amount of young Yoichi Hara Sake, mature Miyagikyo Hara Sake, and possibly a sweet character of Coffee Grain.
