Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 is like strolling through the magnificent wine cellars of Chateau Montrose. The eloquence of this whiskey’s vibrant red fruit and candy-like sweetness serves as a beautiful guide in a kaleidoscope of styles.
The soft flavor of this whiskey was distilled in 1997, when Dr. Bill Lumsden was Director of Glenmorangie Distillery. In his quest to bring different flavors to the world, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whiskey Making has begun redesigning every aspect of Glenmorangie whiskey making, dreaming of creating a more expressive The power of Glenmorangie.
Dr Bill has changed the alcohol cut point, which is the moment Glenmorangie's alcohol is extracted from the still, to highlight the delicate flavors of its fruit. And fascinated by the possibilities of barrel aging, he began to explore how rare wine casks could shape the taste ofGlenmorangiewhiskey.
Aged in the finest bourbon barrels, the 1997 alcohol inspired Dr. Bill to conduct a rare experiment with wood. After nearly ten years of careful aging, he transfers part of the alcohol into Château Montrose red wine barrels. These barrels are so unique that Dr. Bill was able to source only a few barrels from famous chateaux in the Saint-Estèphe region of Bordeaux. The intense color of this wine's aging is also reflected in the whiskey's barrels.
Dr. Bill was curious about the unique soft red fruit aroma that such a barrel might bring. He wanted to create a unique Glenmorangie through aging methods that had never been tried at the Glenmorangie distillery and would never be tried again.
Fully 13 years later, this single malt whiskey has developed an extraordinary depth of red fruit. Dr. Bill was delighted and began designing a complex combination of barrels to enhance its unparalleled taste. He chose whiskey aged entirely in bourbon barrels, hinting at Glenmorangie's signature citrus aroma. By aging the whiskey for many years in Oroso sherry casks, he brings out layers of sweet and spicy flavors, while a clever selection of secret casks also comes into play.
After 23 years of perfect aging, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1997 is full of red fruits and candy-like sweetness. Like Dr. Bill's dream for Glenmorangie whisky, it beautifully celebrates Glenmorangie's kaleidoscope of styles.
