Gris De Koshu グリド甲州 2023年份
This wine was born in 1999, created by fourth-generation owner Shigeyuki Misawa who was inspired by the potential of Pinot Gris grapes during his time in Alsace. The name "Gris de (グリド)" comes from combining "Gris," the French word describing the color of Koshu grape skins, and "De," meaning "of." Mr. Misawa's vision in creating this wine was that one day, Japanese wine would naturally appear on dining tables. Today, this wine is not only popular in homes but also adopted by many restaurants, acclaimed as one of the wines that best expresses the characteristics of the Koshu grape.
Grace Wine Winery carefully selects premium Koshu grapes from Yamanashi Prefecture. These grapes have a light purplish-red skin with low tannin content, producing a light-bodied white wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks rather than oak barrels, it offers a more direct acidity with an elegant and delicate body. The wine features refreshing apple and apricot fruit aromas, fully embodying the distinctive character of Koshu grapes. Wines produced in Japan naturally pair better with local cuisine, particularly excelling when complementing the challenging umami flavors where the value of "Koshu" in food pairing becomes especially apparent.
The 2013 vintage won a Gold Medal at the "Decanter Asian Wine Award." This wine also made an appearance in the popular Japanese drama "Grand Maison Tokyo" starring famous actor Takuya Kimura. The series, which follows a chef's passion and dedication to fine cuisine in a Michelin-starred restaurant setting, featured GRACE Gris de Koshu 2020 in episode 9 during a scene explaining food and wine pairing.
